The update: Andy, Laura, Luke, and Gabe

The year is flying by, which is no excuse for not updating those who do want to know what is going on in our lives.
We are settled into Hendersonville life. We are enjoying the
summer weather, our garden, our bikes/bike trailer, the rivers and
streams nearby, hiking, and a great community of friends and church.

We are raising chickens for eggs and food. After I was attacked
by the rather fat rooster one evening, Andy
decided it was time the
rooster met his demise so that we could have dinner the next evening.
I was not fond of the whole experience, including the dinner
preparations. Andy, on the other hand, loved learning something
new. We now have three hens and two roosters, which we hope to
keep alive. The hens should start laying eggs within the month.
Luke and Gabe continue to grow closer as brothers, especially since
Gabe started to walk and run and talk. Luke prefers to speak
English now, though we only speak Spanish at home. Gabe is
learning both languages as he picks up most of his words from Luke.
It is such a joy to watch them grow and learn together.
I stay busy with the boys at home. On the side, I am busy knitting,
sewing, and quilting. It has been great to get back into knitting
since returning from Honduras. I have also learned how to make
jam from all the delicious fruit we pick nearby.
So far, strawberry and peach jam have made it into our
pantry. Hopefully, some blackberry jam is soon to come.
Andy stays busy with work and projects around the house. One big
project he is undertaking is the construction of a garage next to our
house. Next week, we are supposed to have the slab poured for
that. We shall see how it goes.
We continue to have frequent visitors from family and friends. If
the grandparents were willing to travel to Honduras (3 hour flight + 7
hour drive) so often to visit Luke (Andy and I know it really wasn't
about us), we knew they would make the easy flight/drive to NC as often
as possible. It has been great to have them visit.
