The update: Andy, Laura, and Luke

November 26
Fun firsts with Luke in NC: catching snowflakes outside in the blustery
wind; checking out books at the library about cars and trains; getting
a free cookie at the grocery store every time we go; going to a HUGE
flea market looking for furniture (and hearing more Spanish than
English); driving around with the three of us in the bench seat
complete with carseat of the new/old truck picking up furniture;
making the trek to check the mailbox on the road and noticing every
bird, tree, tractor, and stick; watching the birds eat from the bird
feeder; picnic-ing on the floor for lunch; watching Luke play the organ
Andy picked up at a yard sale.
Luke has been doing so well! We are very thankful for the
seemingly easy transition he has made. There are still 2-year old
moments; but, for the most part, Luke has been friendly, loving,
obedient, and hilarious. He has kept us smiling and laughing
these past few weeks. He never ceases to amaze us with what he
picks up from other and can communicate back. He is still
speaking mostly Spanish but babbles in English to his cars and trucks.
He is sleeping like a champ (about 12 hours at night and 2-3
during the day). He is eating new foods and has learned to love
raw celery, carrots, and tomatoes. He is even, somewhat, adjusting to
having to wear multiple layers outside the house. We are very thankful
for how well he is doing! We look forward to making new friends
for Luke to play with, both Spanish and English speaking.
November 21
We have made it back to the US, stayed in TX for a week, loaded a
26-foot moving truck and added a car trailer to the back, drove the
26-foot truck(Andy)/flew to NC (Laura and Luke), managed to get the
truck and trailer down a winding gravel driveway, unloaded everything
with the help of friends and residents, painted a bedroom and two
bathrooms (with one bedroom left to go), unpacked countless boxes,
bought a used car in TX and a really used truck in NC, went through all
that is involved in driving legally here (drivers licenses, titles,
registrations, license plates, etc), visited Home Depot many times
over, have played in the snow and watched the snow from inside the warm
house, have had a fire in the fireplace, and are getting used to
wearing sweaters and jackets and hats and gloves.
The beginning of our time in Hendersonville was crazy with all the
unpacking; but things have slowed down, and we are enjoying life here
(though the lower temperatures are a shock to all of us).
The pregnancy is going well. We have six more weeks left. We hope to be ready for a new little Morris by then.
Thanks to all the family and friends who have helped us transition back and who continue to shower us with help.
